Creating generative MetaHuman merchants in Unreal
Update 10/13/2022: We've been awarded an Epic MegaGrant to make Unreal Engine's MetaHuman even more realistic. We're planning to give digital humans artificial intelligence to power believable conversations, facial expressions, and gestures.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been moonlighting as a game developer and building a demo in Unreal that I call Galaxy Shop. Galaxy Shop features a classic merchant NPC. But unlike most NPCs, AI characters from Inworld are capable of generative dialogue and can respond to any question a player has. I’ve created a tutorial that walks through the experience of creating a MetaHuman merchant in Inworld Studio and integrating him into my Unreal project. I hope it inspires you to create your own generative NPCs!
By the way, we also have integrations for Unity and a beta Node.JS SDK (ask nicely on Discord and we can share). Galaxy Shop is a labor of love that I whisked together in my spare time, so forgive its incompleteness. I am a self-taught Unreal developer and I learned from developer tutorials like these, so I hope this proves helpful!
